The Public Dissemination of Komodo Survival Program's Activities in Bajawa


In the 21st of March 2018, Komodo Survival Program held public dissemination in Bajawa. This meeting aimed to disseminate findings from our komodo distribution survey activities on Flores, and to build a harmonious partnership in komodo conservation effort in Riung District, Regency of Ngada, NTT, together with Balai Besar Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Nusa Tenggara Timur (BBKSDA NTT). Prior to this event, KSP with BBKSDA NTT had finished komodo population monitoring (locally, komodo is called as "mbou"), and together with LIPI it has been known that Florenese komodo has similar genetics with komodos in Komodo National Park.

In this roundtable, it had been agreed that KSP together with local authorities and BBKSDA NTT will continue several program as a part of komodo dragon conservation effort. That includes wildlife park management in Riung area and establishment of ecotourism area in the komodo habitat - also, related Village Funding management.

Regarding of local wisdom, KSP together with local government support controlling of illegal poaching outside the tribal hunt of komodo's main prey. This roundtable was attended by representatives of Regency of Ngada, KSP, BBKSDA NTT, village chiefs, Riung District Chief, representative of various boards such as Health, Agriculture, Cooperative, Tourism, and also other organizations such as Burung Indonesia, HPI, and Indekon.
